Fall Travels around Germany

I FINALLY got around to sorting through all of our pictures from various travel adventures this Fall.  I posted a bunch of pictures last week from when my parents visited us.  A week after my parents left, Jesse's parents came to visit!  We got spoiled from lots of Grandparents help for about 5-6 weeks!

We showed them around town the first day or so and introduced them to some delicious restaurants downtown.  Then we finished out the long weekend with some traveling.  Our first stop was hiking in Oberstdorf at Breitachklamm.  We hiked here a few years ago, but it's worth it to go again.  It is so beautiful there and we had the perfect weather! After our hike we also went to ride the Alpsee Bergwelt, an apline roller coaster, down the side of the mountain.  This may have been one of our favorite things since arrived.   Here are a few highlights from the hike and our roller coaster ride:

First we rode a cable car up the mountain at Alpsee Bergwelt.

At the top of the mountain there is a restaurant, a huge play area for kids, and the start of the roller coaster.

Valerie and I taking our turn!  The kids LOVED it!

If you ever find yourself traveling in the southern part of Germany, I highly recommend staying at Brauereigasthof Schaeffler.  It was a local family brewery and guesthouse we stayed at overnight.  The rooms had just been renovated and were awesome!  We also had dinner and breakfast there and the food was really good!  The next day we visited Neuschwanstein Castle before heading back home.

The next weekend we visited Rothenberg, Nuremberg, and Triberg (lots of bergs.....).  Rothenberg is one of our favorites in Germany, we've been there several times.  There is something fun about feeling like you have been taken back in time.
 Almost a good family picture!

Love the traditional buildings and flower boxes.
We told Ian to put money in the bucket by the statue....he was pretty surprised when it started moving :-)

Next up in Nuremberg we visited a local brewery, the Imperial Castle, and did some shopping.  There was a lot to see at the Castle: a museum, a demonstration of the old well they used for their water source, and a tower where you could see out over the whole city.

In Triberg we did some hiking to see the Triberg Waterfalls.  Definitely not the largest waterfall, but it was really beautiful to hike back through and see the falls.  It was raining off and on and we even got to see a rainbow towards the end of our hike.  Triberg is also famous for it's Cuckoo clocks!  It was really neat to see all of the different designs.

We had a great time visiting some old and new places throughout Germany in the Fall!  Now that the holidays are over and we are back from our US visit, we'll have some more time to update our adventures here!  Check out my facebook page to see more pictures from our trips.
