A week of settling in

I debated updating anything this evening because in the grand scheme of things this week wasn't all that eventful.  This week was mostly just settling in and adjusting to our new surroundings.  Our big shipment from home arrived this week, which was very exciting!  The kids ooooed and ahhhhhhd as we opened the boxes and they saw treasures from home.  I was very happy to have some of my kitchen things from home. I was also excited about my wardrobe expansion as we had been living off the same set of clothes since our big shipment left home about 6 weeks ago.  Unfortunately, I am missing my walk-in closet at home as our apartment lacks in closet space a bit and we'll have to make some adjustments :-)

The kids began "kindergarten" this week and we explored some more playgrounds around town.  We are getting our exercise walking everywhere we need to go until we get a car. 



 
Even though it's been a little colder this week we've still spent quite a bit of time outside.  We've discovered there are lots of snails in the gardens.  We found a live one outback the other day and the kids were just fascinated with it.  They were disappointed the next day when they realized it was gone. 
 
I'll leave you with a rare picture that I'm actually in!  We were downtown at the city hall (German: Rathaus) and a friend got a picture of the kids and I outside.  Valerie had her umbrella along because you never know when you may need Anna and Elsa to protect you from a passing shower.

 Happy Friday! I thought I'd post a few pictures for your viewing pleasure today!  The first is a picture of the majestic Heidenheim Castle.  I'm not sure if that's it's proper name, but it sits up on the hill overlooking the town.  How awesome is that to look up and see?!?  You can see it from just about everywhere around town.  We can even see it from our window! Now a little tour around the apartment....  Above is our kitchen area.  Pretty basic, but it does the job.  There's a little fridge in the bottom right that looks like a cabinet.  The stove top takes forever to heat up.  I miss my gas stove.  Haven't done much cooking here though and don't plan to.    This area is opposite the kitchen.  We have a tv, but it only gets German channels, plus CNN.    The other side of our living space there is a little couch and table.  Bedroom, complete with baby peeking through the pack n play.  They were nice enough to arrange for us to

Heidenheim Castle

On Sunday we were pretty worn out from the wedding over the weekend so we decided to stay local.  We had lunch at a little cafe then walked up to the Heidenheim castle. Not sure how old it is exactly, but it was really neat!  A great view of the town and there are 2 museums there.  We didn't go in the museums as there was only an hour left before they closed.  Here are some pictures: There are goats that live on the hillside next to the castle.  Of course Jesse had to try to feed them leaves. The beginning of this week has been pretty low-key.  Valerie had a stomach bug yesterday (her first one ever).  Luckily she only got sick a few times, and didn't run a fever.

Mid week update

Greetings! Another week is flying by here in Germany!  This past Sunday another one of Jesse's German co-workers invited us to spend the day with him and his family.  We first met them in a town called Schwabisch Gmund where we took a rainy tour of some of the city's highlights.  We saw some old churches dating back to about the 1100s and 1300s.  One church we went into had an organist practicing for an evening concert that would happen later.  It really set the mood to look around with a beautiful pipe organ playing in the background.  We didn't take many pictures because it was raining and we were wrestling with umbrellas and taking turns carrying Valerie in the baby bjorn. Later we went back to the family's house for a walk and some afternoon coffee and cake.  I love the focus on the family that the Germans seem to have.  The few times we have been invited over to German houses who have teenage kids (roughly 10-17 years old) the whole family hangs out with us.  T
